The Virtuous Wife

The Virtuous Wife

Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms. She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the merchants. Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Job ... a man of Faith

Father

As you know there have been people that have said that my life reminds them of Job’s life. Job was a man who loved you more than all that he had. He loved you more than his own life and yet he too went through very deep and dark times. Even though he know as a man who was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil, the devil still came and tormented him and tried to turn his heart away from you. Thank you that you were with him and that you showed your love to him … and in this to us … that even in his darkest moment you were still there to hold him safely in the palm of your hands.
You blessed him with many children, servants, land, possessions and health and even though the devil took it all away you rewarded him for his faithfulness by giving him back twice the amount than the devourer had stolen from him. I have lost very mush in my life, in fact lost all that was truly worth living for, I ask that you one day help me to see why you allowed this to happen. I know that you promised me that you would restore all the years the locusts have stolen from me, help me be patient as I wait upon you to fulfil that promise. Forgive my impatience.
I ask that you help me to me a servant to you that will so be pleasing to you  that you can brag about me to the devil too, like you did of Job. Put your hedge of protection firmly around me Lord. Even if we will never be able to own our own land Lord, please protect us from the evil one. Let me say as Job did, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” and let me be as Job that in all things I did not sin nor charge you my God with wrong. Forgive me for the many times I have done this already. Help me not to do it anymore. Praise be your Holy name. Amen.
